The 1975 to replace Lewis Capaldi at Reading & Leeds festival

It's the third time in four years that the band are headlining the festival

Healy also revealed that the band's set at the festival would consist of them playing their debut album in full, to mark 10 years since its release.

He told the crowd: “So, on Saturday at Reading and Sunday at Leeds in celebration of 10 years of our debut album, The 1975 will be playing that album in full in support of our good friend Lewis Capaldi.

"If you’ve got tickets, good for you. If you haven’t, go and get them. We’ll see you there."

The 1975 will be joining the likes of Billie Eilish, The Killers, Sam Fender, Foals and Imagine Dragons at Reading & Leeds which takes place from August 25-27.

This will be the third time in four years that Matty Healy and his bandmates have headlined the iconic festival, having performed there in 2019 and 2022.

Last month, Capaldi announced he would be taking a break from touring for the "foreseeable future."

This was following his performance at Glastonbury on the Pyramid Stage, which he struggled to finish because of his Tourettes 'ticks.'

He had been due to headline Reading & Leeds next month, and following his announcement organisers of the festival confirmed they were looking for a replacement for his slot on the bill.

They said in a statement: “We’re gutted that Lewis Capaldi won’t be performing at R&L this year, but health comes first and we wish him a speedy recovery."
