A teenage dad has enjoyed a huge slice of beginner's luck - after winning £120,000 with his first ever lottery ticket.
Sam Lawton, 19, was having a soak in the bath when he decided to play the National Lottery for the first time back in 2019.
Understandably, the teen was left absolutely gobsmacked after matching the winning numbers 3, 20, 26, 27 and 32 on the Set for Life lottery game.
Sam purchased the ticket via an online mobile phone app for £1.50 and is now celebrating landing a cool £10,000 for the next 12 months.
He plans to splash out on driving lessons, a deposit for a new home and a holiday to New York with his delighted girlfriend Connie Belle.
Sam said that he decided to play the game, which involves matching five numbers and a 'Life Ball', after seeing fellow winner Dean Weymes, 24, on the TV.
Sam celebrated his win by cracking open a bottle champagne at a press conference at posh Coombe Abbey Hotel, in Coventry.
Sam, who lives in Leamington Spa, with Connie, and their one-year-old son, said: "It's just incredible.
"Nothing like this happens to me, I'm chuffed to bits.
"I'd seen the ads for the Set for Life game and thought how great it would be to win the prize."
He continued: "I then saw the winner Dean Weymes on the TV celebrating his Set for Life win and thought I'd have a go.
"I downloaded the National Lottery app, set up an account, put £10 into my account and then played a Lucky Dip and I did all this whilst having a bath.
"It was only one hour, maybe 90 minutes after I first played the when I saw a message on my phone and it said I had won the second prize, £10,000 per month for 12 months.
"Having never played before I asked my partner Connie to take a look.
"But like me, she had never played before so we called her brother Craig who has been playing the lottery for years.
"I sent him a screen grab of my phone screen and he said 'on my way, don't move' and within five minutes, he was at the front door.
"We all checked the tickets and sat there in disbelief wondering if it was true."
Sam added: "It was a sleepless night and then I got up and went to work as usual at 8am.
"I started work at 8am and called the National Lottery hotline to check if I had won and by 8.45am I was on my way home as a winner.
"My head was spinning, I needed to see Connie.
"Work were great, they said go. It was so surreal because a few of us had been talking about Set For Life the week before.
"We were saying what would we do if we won, and there I was a winner."
Living the dream.

OPINION: Starmer was wrong in a world that doesn’t know how to be right
Starmer failed because modern politics no longer rewards competence. It rewards performance. Sir Keir Starmer announced his resignation today, bringing to an end a premiership that was as relentlessly criticised as it was quietly consequential. In an address to the nation on Monday morning from Downing Street, Starmer gave an emotional speech in which he […]
