Sir David Jason issues health update after he’s forced to cancel public appearance

'I need a new bionic body part fitted'

Jason, 83, was due to attend the Only Fools and Horses Convention in Milton Keynes in October, but has had to reschedule the event for next year.

The actor had planned to meet fans of the long-running sitcom, alongside other stars who have featured in the show that ran from September 1981 until December 2003.

Jason rescheduled the event due to health issues, with the convention now due to take place on 13 and 15 January 2024.

An announcement on the event's website states: “Following on from our successful conventions over the past 3 years, Sir David Jason is returning once again in person to meet his fans, along with other star guests who have appeared on our screens as part of our beloved Only Fools & Horses.

“Following our recent announcement with the change of Convention date we are delighted to confirm we will be returning across the weekend of Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th January 2024 to Double Tree Milton Keynes – MK Dons DoubleTree by Hilton, Stadium Way West, Milton Keynes, MK1 1ST.”

Jason has said he had to push the appearance date back as he requires a "new body part". He did not specify what medical treatment he was undertaking, but said he had been advised that he needs "a new bionic body part fitted."

He said in a statement: "I am so very sorry for the disappointment and all the inconvenience it may cause but we are having to change the date of the forthcoming Only Fools and Horses Convention.

"Unfortunately I have just been advised I need a new bionic body part fitted. I won’t tell you which part it is, or you will all want one! And don’t worry it’s not being supplied by Monkey Harris, it’ll be the pukka gear.” Lovely jubbly!

Jason continued: "I really hope everyone will be able to make the new date (January 13th and 14th) and we can all have something cushty to look forward to!

“These events are such an enjoyable celebration for myself and the rest of the Only Fools cast, and it is such a privilege to meet so many of you, but I want to do it with the smile on my face I always have had."

Jason said the decision to change the date was not taken "lightly" and reiterated his "sincere apologies" to his fans.

“I hope that you understand my situation. All cushty wishes until then," he added.
