Tim Gough, 55, was presenting his breakfast show for GenX Radio Suffolk on Monday morning (October 24) when the music stopped playing half way through a song, just an hour into his slot.
After a few minutes, the music resumed but Gough did not return. The station later confirmed that he had sadly passed away. In a statement on social media, GenX Radio Suffolk said: "It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to inform you, our dear friend and breakfast host Tim Gough passed away this morning whilst presenting his program. Our love to his family, son, sister, brother and mum. Tim was doing what he loved. He was 55 years old. RIB buddy." https://twitter.com/genxradiouk/status/1584481802688745472?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet The 55-year-old's radio career spanned more than 35 years. On Monday's show, he had wished his listeners good morning and said how he was excited for the radio station' launch on DAB next week.He gave the weather across Suffolk and just minutes before 'Grey Day' by Madness stopped abruptly and the radio went silent, he was talking about famous couples which had married in Bury, Suffolk, over the years.
'Brown Sugar' by the Rolling Stones had just played and Gough commented that today is bass guitarists Bill Wyman's birthday and that he is a Suffolk resident.
His profile on the radio's website says: "Tim is Suffolk born and bred, and grew up in a village close to Bury St Edmunds.
"His radio career has spanned over a quarter of a century, and began at Radio Orwell in 1986.
"He went on to present the breakfast show on Saxon Radio and SGR-FM, as well as appearing on Smooth Radio and various other radio stations in the East Midlands.
"The breakfast show on GenX Radio Suffolk will be the first time Tim has got back behind the microphone in over a decade!"
Tributes poured in from fans of the station, which launched in January this year.
One person wrote on Facebook: "Such sad news. It was so nice to hear his cheerful voice first thing in the mornings."
Another tweeted: "My darling friend. Doing what he loved doing but I can’t comprehend the loss."
