A Russian general has been killed by a car bomb in Moscow, officials have said.
Lt Gen Fanil Sarvarov died this morning (22 December) after an explosive device was placed underneath a car.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) confirmed the news and are currently looking into the incident.
The 56-year-old general was the head of the armed forces' operational training department, the ICRF said.
Investigations are underway into the incident, however, unsurprisingly, theories currently suggest the involvement of Ukrainian intelligence.
Ukraine has not yet commented.
Videos and images from the scene show an emergency service response as well as a white car with its doors and windows blown out.
Investigators attended the scene in a car park in the south of Moscow.
This incident comes a year after General Igor Kirillov died in December 2024 in similar circumstances in which a device hidden in a scooter was detonated remotely.
Meanwhile General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a car bomb attack in Moscow in April.
As a matter of policy, Ukraine never officially admits or claims responsibility for targeted attacks, so it is unlikely we will ever now for definite the responsible people behind the incident.
