Romanian court rejects Andrew Tate’s application for bail

No charges have yet been brought against him

The YouTube influencer and his brother Tristan have been detained since December and are being investigated on charges of rape, people trafficking and forming an organised crime group.

Both have denied wrongdoing.

According to Tate's Twitter account, he has been spending his days inside walking 10km and doing 500 squats and 500 pushups in his cell while also finding time to reply to 100s of letters and practice his tiger paw technique.

He also had to fend off a ghost, he said.

Concerns over his health have also been raised, with a lesion on his upper right lung reportedly noted in medical documents.

Following the latest ruling, Tate's spokeswoman has expressed disappointment, saying the legal team would appeal the verdict.

Lawyers for Tate have long argued that keeping him in preventative custody is unnecessarily harsh, when other judicial options - such as house arrest - are available.

Judges have so far disagreed, based on the perceived risk of Tate fleeing the country, influencing witnesses or evidence, or that his release would disturb public order.

The request for bail in place of custody was new, but the response from the court, the same.

In late February, the court ruled that Tate should remain in custody until 29 March.

On Wednesday, Tate's brother Tristan will also apply for bail in a separate hearing.
