A pilot episode for a Prison Break reboot has been commissioned, however some fans have been left upset about one aspect of the revival.
According to Variety, Hulu has commissioned a pilot episode for a reboot of the show, following confirmation in November 2023 that the series was under development.
But the main point of controversy for some fans of the hit show is that the reboot will have an entirely new cast, and feature none of the original characters from the show.
One person wrote: "It won’t be the same without the original cast unfortunately."
However, they did say they would still give the new series "a chance."
Sharing a GIF from the original series, someone else said: "Not sure if anyone can replace these guys."
A third wrote: "Might suck then."
Others suggested it couldn't be classed as a reboot and shouldn't be given the Prison Break title if it wasn't going to feature any of the original cast.
One person commented: Isn’t this more of a spin off then since it’s same universe just focusing on new people?"
A second said: "So…just a new show?"
Paul Scheuring, the creator of the original series, will return as executive producer for the Prison Break reboot, alongside Dawn Olmstead, Marty Adelstein, Neil Moritz and Elgin James.
The original Prison Break aired four seasons on Fox before concluding in 2009, with a revival in 2017 for a fifth season. The plot centred around brothers Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) and Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), navigating life behind bars.
The series was a critical and commercial success, and received a number of nominations for awards, including the 2005 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series Drama and the 2006 People's Choice Award for Favourite New TV Drama, which it won.
