Liam Payne's cause of death has been confirmed as 'polytrauma' in an inquest into the One Direction star's death.
A hearing, that Buckinghamshire Coroner’s Court said was held on 17 December, was told it could take "some time" to determine the singer's cause of death.
Dr Roberto Victor Cohen confirmed 'polytrauma' as Payne's medical cause of death, meaning that he died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries.
The One Direction star was found dead in a courtyard at the CasaSur hotel in the Palermo neighbourhood of Buenos Aires on October 16.
Payne, 31, had fallen from the third-floor balcony of his hotel room, and it was confirmed the following day that he died from multiple traumas and internal and external bleeding caused by a fall.
The inquest into his death comes after five people have been charged over his death.
According to Argentinian news site Infobae, the pop star’s close friend Rogelio “Roger” Nores and some hotel staff are allegedly among those charged.
The website published that five people have been charged by a judge and two have been remanded in custody.
The report claims Nores has been charged with negligent homicide. He reportedly left the singer at the CasaSur Palermo hotel about an hour before he fell to his death on October 16.
Meanwhile, waiter Braian Paiz was reportedly charged with supplying narcotics for payment, while hotel employee Ezequiel Pereyra was also charged with supplying drugs.
Paiz admitted using drugs, including cocaine, with the singer, according to the Daily Mail.
Two hotel managers Gilda Martín and Esteban Grassi have reportedly been charged with manslaughter.
Receptionist Grassi was the hotel employee who called 911 before Payne fell from the third floor balcony of his hotel suite.
Speaking to the Sun in November, Nores denied having any involvement with Payne’s death, and also denied suggestions he was one of three people arrested in connection with the tragedy.
Prosecutors said there was nothing to indicate third party involvement in Payne’s death and ruled out “self-harm,” according to a forensic psychiatric report.

Senior Coroner Crispin Butler said during the hearing into Payne's death: “Whilst there are ongoing investigations in Argentina into the circumstances of Liam‘s death, over which I have no legal jurisdiction, it is anticipated that procuring the relevant information to address particularly how Liam came by his death may take some time through the formal channel of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.”
