Notre Dame is one of the most visited building in the world but was in urgent need of renovation, prompting an urgent appeal by the Catholic church to raise €6 million. Firefighters have said the fire was 15 - 30 minutes away from totally destroying the Parisian landmark. Since the catastrophic fire two French billionaires have jointly offered €300 million for repairs.
