A two-month-old boy died in his sleep just weeks after his mother suffered a fatal blood clot, an inquest has been told.
According to a report by Lancashire Live, Dexter Khan-Barnes was born at 32 weeks after being delivered by emergency caesarean section when his mother, Laura Barnes, developed the clot. Laura's mum Jennifer Barnes said her daughter had suffered a stroke months earlier.
Dexter remained in hospital on the neo-natal unit but was discharged into the care of his father, Shane Khan, six weeks after his birth on 29 May last year.
The inquest, at Blackburn Old Town Hall, heard Dexter had been seen by a nurse at his father's house in Rishton, near Accrington, Lancashire, on 29 July and no concerns had been raised.
In the early hours of the following day, Khan found his son unresponsive.
According to reports, he had laid down next to his son at 4am and woke up around an hour and a half later to find the baby's arms limp and eyes discoloured.
Dexter was pronounced dead later that morning after being rushed to Royal Blackburn Hospital.
Lancashire Live said a post-mortem had failed to determine a cause of death.
Barnes, according to the publisher's report, said her daughter had always wanted to be a mum and hoped the pair would now be reunited.
Coroner Richard Taylor said a post-mortem found no evidence of prior illness or injuries that could have contributed to Dexter's death, and no cause of death could be found.
