Met Office make statement on chances of White Christmas as bookies slash odds

Temperatures look set to drop next week

It may be weirdly mild at the moment in much of the country, but temperatures are set to drop as Christmas approaches.

However, it looks like dreams of a proper white Christmas will remain just that, with snow unlikely for most of us on December 25.

Met Office meteorologist Honor Criswick said: "If that's what you're after (a White Christmas), I might have a little bit of disappointing news... We are unlikely to see any sort of widespread snow as we head into Christmas, sorry if that is a little bit disappointing for you."

Criswick continued: "Even if we see a single snowflake observed in Scotland over higher ground that technically means that it's been a White Christmas, but overall looking at the setup, it's not looking like we are going to see any kind of White Christmas.

"Best of the weather if you are looking to head out for a walk is likely across the South and Southeast of England with perhaps just some wet and windy weather moving into the far Northwest of England."
