Martin Zubimendi has been told that he must pay his own release clause if he wants to join Liverpool.
With interest from the English giants, Real Sociedad have now demanded that Zubimendi must pay the money himself in order to move to Merseyside.
Zubimendi has played for the Basque club since the age of 12 and the club would want him to pay the clause that equates to £51million at the La Liga offices in Madrid.
Emerging as the best fit for the new no.6 role at Liverpool under Arne Slot, the player is yet to negotiate with the club.
This news may result in Zubimendi having to force his way out of the club, something which he would have wanted to avoid previously.
Sociedad recently lost Robin Le Normand to Atletico Madrid this week, with Mikel Merino also reportedly a target for Arsenal.
