A man has died after he was mauled by an "out of control" dog which had to be shot by armed officers, police have confirmed.
The man died after sustaining 'serious injuries' when he was attacked by the dog at a house in Normanton, Derby, yesterday (April 22).
Police shut Cameron Road from the early hours of Saturday, with a cordon put in place that also left parts of Brunswick Street also inaccessible to the public.
The dog was shot by firearm officers after they were called to the address to reports a man had been seriously injured by a dog.
An updated statement released at 11.30pm on Saturday night confirmed that a man had died as a result of the attack.
Another man has been arrested following the incident, but police have not revealed what he has been arrested on suspicion of.
It said: "We are now able to confirm that the man injured during the incident in Cameron Road, Derby, died at the scene. His family have been made aware and our thoughts are with them at this time.
"The man arrested in connection with the incident remains in police custody and a scene remains in place at a house in Cameron Road.
"There will be an increased police presence in the area as enquiries continue and officers are keen to speak to anyone who may have information.
"Anyone who can help with the enquiries is asked to contact the force with reference 215-220423."
