A stretch of a major UK motorway remains closed nearly 24 hours after an eight-vehicle crash, National Highways has confirmed.
The crash involved three lorries, two cars and a van, and occurred at around 11.30am BST on Monday, 7 July.
A stretch of the M60 between Bredbury Interchange at junction 25 and junction 1 for the Pyramid Roundabout in Stockport has remained closed since.
National Highways said that although recovery work is complete now, emergency resurfacing work is now underway and the motorway will remain closed to drivers until 10.00am.
Yesterday, they confirmed that the M60 would be shut for a "substantial amount of time due to the amount of infrastructure damage, spillage, debris clean-up and the recovery of several substantially damaged large vehicles."
The crash saw one lorry drive through the central reservation and hit multiple lamp posts, while another HGV shed its load of beer barrels.
Several of the vehicles' fuel tanks also ruptured during the collision, meaning there was a huge amount of diesel spilt across the carriageway in both directions.
All road users caught within the closures have been released, National Highways said.
North West Ambulance Service confirmed that three people were taken to hospital to receive further treatment after the M60 crash, while six more had been treated for minor injuries.
