Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to have a place at King Charles’ coronation should they wish to attend, despite the controversy surrounding their new Netflix documentary, it has been reported.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be invited to Charles III’s ceremony on 6 May, with all family members expected to feature on a guest list still to be drawn up, according to a report.
A source told the Daily Telegraph: “All members of the family will be welcome.”
The Sussexes are understood to have not yet received an invitation.
Buckingham Palace declined to comment, but a source said of the king: “He loves both his sons.”
But the day of the coronation is also the fourth birthday of Harry and Meghan’s son, Archie, raising doubts over whether they will be able to attend. The Sussexes are currently the focus of a lot of attention after the release of their new Netflix documentary, Harry & Meghan. Both Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace have so far remained silent over a number of allegations made by the couple in the six-part series. This includes claims from Harry that his brother Prince William left him 'terrified' after he shouted at him during the Sandringham summit in January 2020, when Harry, William, Charles and the late Queen met at the Norfolk estate to thrash out the term of Harry and Meghan's exit deal from the family.
Harry also alleged that Kensington Palace “lied to protect my brother” when it issued a statement denying a story William had bullied him out of the royal family.
The king is said to be hurt by Harry and Meghan’s criticism of the family, but has not given up hope of reconciliation and does not want to strip the pair of their titles, the Daily Express has reported.
King Charles III will be coronated alongside the Queen consort Camilla in Westminster Abbey. Buckingham Palace has promised the ceremony will be “rooted in long standing traditions and pageantry”, but also “reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future”.
