Harrison Ford had to fight back tears after he was given a five-minute standing ovation for the fifth film in the Indiana Jones franchise.
The 80-year-old, who has played the protagonist in the hugely successful franchise for over four decades, told a Cannes audience that he was touched by the recognition from distinguished members of the industry.
"I’m very moved by this," Ford said.
"They say when you’re about to die, you see your life flash before your eyes, and I just saw my life flash before my eyes.
"A great part of my life, but not all of my life."
Ford was also blown away as he was given a surprise Palme d’Or, the highest prize awarded at the Cannes Film Festival.
A reel of his greatest roles played on the screen, from Star Wars to The Fugitive.
He added: "My life has been enabled by my lovely wife, who has supported my passion and my dreams, and I’m grateful.”
He then addressed the audience. "I love you, too. But I’ve got a movie you ought to see. It’s right behind me.
"So let me get out of the way, and thank you again for this great honour."
Sadly, Ford also alluded to this latest Indiana Jones installment being the last time he will comprise the role, saying: "This is it. I will not fall down for you again. But thank you so much."
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is set to arrive in cinemas on 30 June 2023.
