In exclusive polling done by IPSOS for JOE Media Group, numbers show that over half of Gen Z think we have gone too far in promoting women's equality and that half of men believe they're expected to do too much to support gender equality overall.
The polls indicate that 51% of 25-34-year-olds think they’re expected to do too much to support equality. This percentage drops by only 2% for a younger demographic (16-34-year-olds).
More than half of Gen Z think promoting women's equality has gone too far, and half of 25-34-year-olds agree. However, less than half of men overall (45%) agree women’s equality has led to men being discriminated against.
Additionally, it appears that the more men earn, the more they agree they're expected to do too much to support gender equality, eventually leading to them being discriminated against.
In terms of political beliefs, more than half (54%) of Reform voters believe that men are being discriminated against, as do 44% of Brexit voters. While Liberal Democrats are less likely to think they are.
Reform and Leave voters tend to agree that 1 in 5 men think a man who stays home to look after his children is less of a man, a belief that is less prevalent among Remain voters. Along those same lines, more Brexiteers believe equality has gone too far, compared to Remainers.
Additionally, you're more likely to define yourself as a feminist if you voted Remain over Leave.
The polls suggest that less than half of women (45%) aged 25-34 define themselves as feminists, and this percentage dips even lower for women aged 55-75 (21%).
Only 26% of men aged 25-34 define themselves as feminists. In addition, more minority ethnic people tend to define themselves as feminists when compared to Caucasians.
