Donald Trump has been labelled “Dazy Don” by the press office of California Governor Gavin Newsom, as the president seemed to close his eyes at an event for the Board of Peace.
On Thursday, during the board’s first meeting, Trump announced that member nations had pledged $7 billion toward a Gaza reconstruction fund.
To the Board of Peace the US will contribute $10 billion, he announced.
However, Trump seemed tired and as though he was falling asleep during the event, which didn’t go unnoticed on social media, or by Gavin Newsom and his team.
His press office shared a brief video for the president, whose eyes appeared closed during a speech.
“That’s not a still photo of Dozy Don. He’s really just asleep”, the Newsom press office captioned the clip.
Newsom is considered a front-runner for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination and over the past year he has used social media to hit out at the president.
He even mimics Trump’s online posting style, as he also writes in all-caps and signs posts with his initials.
A former Republican congressman, Adam Kinzinger, wrote on X: “Poor low energy Donald. He’s tuckered out”.
The jokes continued, as a political group founded by Republicans who are anti-Trump, The Lincoln Project, posted a still photo in which Trump appeared with his eyes shut.
“Bored of Peace”, the organisation commented.
White House spokesperson Anna Kelly was reached for comment by The Independent, and she said that “President Trump is the sharpest, most accessible, and energetic president in American history.”
“While the deranged and failing Independent has their ‘reporters’ push baseless conspiracy theories — President Trump is securing world peace,” she added.
