Fans were emotional last night as the first episode of Paul O'Grady's For The Love of Dog aired following the presenter's death.
O'Grady passed away suddenly last month at the age of 67, but had already filmed the eleventh series of his much-loved show, For The Love of Dogs, which saw the comedian touring Battersea Dogs & Cats Home as he chats with staff and is introduced to the animals who need new homes.
It had been previously confirmed that show would still air for its final series following his passing, and the first episode left viewers emotional as it paid tribute to its legendary host.
At the end of the episode, silent credits rolled in tribute to O'Grady. The programme then ended with a picture of the presenter with one of his beloved dogs.
Many took to Twitter to praise the show's producers for the "beautiful" tribute.
"Beautiful tribute to Paul O’Grady For the Love of Dogs, thank you so much," tweeted one viewer.
A second noted: "Watching Paul O'Grady: For the Love of Dogs and it doesn't feel real that Paul is no longer here."
A third wrote: "A beautiful episode of #POGDogs. Paul O’Grady had such a way with dogs. Felt quite emotional watching him with Peggy and having to say goodbye."
While a fourth added: "#POGDOGS it’s really sad to see Paul O’Grady looking so well in here, knowing he’s not here anymore. Still love watching this."
Paul passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his home on March 28.
In a statement confirming the sad news, his husband Andre Portasio said: "It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening.
"We ask, at this difficult time, that whilst you celebrate his life you also respect our privacy as we come to terms with this loss.
"He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.
