A woman has been arrested and 15 dogs have been seized after a man died after a dog attack in Leigh.
Jonathan Hogg was found by officers on Westleigh Lane in the Greater Manchester town with serious injuries shortly after 9.10pm on Thursday and died in hospital during the early hours on Friday.
The 37-year-old had “sustained serious injuries believed to be caused by a dog which was dangerously out of control”.
Armed officers, Greater Manchester Police said, attempted to control and subdue the dog “and bring it to safety”, but due to “the significant risk the dog posed” to members of the public, it was humanely destroyed.
A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dangerously out-of-control dog causing injury resulting in death.
Police have since revealed that more than a dozen dogs have been seized from two homes and that a 22-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of money laundering.
Detective Chief Inspector John Davies said officers had "searched two houses and seized 15 dogs (six adults and nine puppies) believed to be the same breed as that which attacked Jonathan."
The dogs are now being cared for at a specialist facility.
Davies added: "Our investigations into this violent attack are moving at a pace, as our officers work relentlessly to understand the events that led to Jonathan’s death."
Police also confiscated "items" totalling £37,500 "believed to be the result of criminal proceeds".
"Dangerous dogs do not have a place in our communities, and we want to reassure the public that we are doing everything in our power to keep people safe," Davies said.
"If you think someone has or is breeding dogs which endanger the public, please report it online on by calling 101. For more information about dangerous dogs in the UK, please visit our advice page."
The man and woman arrested have been bailed pending further enquiries.
