Exact date Brits are set to see temperatures soar into 20s

Finally, some warm weather is on the way

Despite the fact that spring is well underway and May is just around the corner, the weather seems determined to make us think it’s still November.

With the exception of a handful of days, we can all agree that the weather so far this spring has been pretty grim.

But this week, it looks like the rain is set to make way for sun and blue skies as temperatures soar.

Hopefully this means that most of us will be in for some sunny weather over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend.

BBC weather forecaster Louis Lear said: “April 2024 has been pretty disappointing but hopefully we are going to be able to close out the month on something a little promising. It is certainly going to be a warmer story over the next few days, with some sunshine around. There will still be some rain at times, the winds not quite as strong but a notable breeze.”

Whilst Monday will still see some "outbreaks of rain" across Northern Ireland into Scotland, North West England, Wales and South West England, Tuesday will see conditions improve.

Lear said: "As we move into Tuesday that low pressure is still there but there is still the potential for some warmth and for some sunshine to develop. The wind direction is swinging round to southerly that’s tapping into some warmer air coming from up from the near Continent and it means that temperatures will be slightly above average for the latter stages of April as we close out the month."

The start of May will see areas including Manchester, Inverness and Edinburgh enjoy sunshine and temperatures touching 20C, and there's the chance that the mercury rises as high as 24C on May 3.

The Met Office forecast for the period from Mat 3 to May 12 says: "During the first weekend, northern parts of the UK are likely to be predominantly dry, while areas of rain or showers, perhaps heavy and thundery, clear erratically from the south to usher in a spell of drier weather here too.

"There is likely to be a fair amount of low cloud in the east at times, with spells of coastal fog, but also temperatures generally above average for the time of year. Through the following week, all areas are likely to see a mixture of periods of rain and drier interludes.

"Overall, northern, especially northwestern, parts of the UK will probably be driest and sunniest, while the more changeable conditions remain more likely in the south. Temperatures should remain close to or a little above normal for early May."
