Emmerdale’s Sam Gannon dies aged 31 whilst visiting family in the US

He has been described as a 'real life Duracell bunny'

Emmerdale actor Sam Gannon has died suddenly whilst abroad in the US, his family have confirmed. The 31-year-old was travelling in California and staying with family when he passed away on Tuesday. His death is being investigated by police but is not being treated as suspicious at this point in time, the Yorkshire Post reports. His sister Amy Kelly, 34, said "Sam was a whirlwind, a unique character to say the least. "He genuinely cared for others and was a very sensitive soul. It is clear from the tributes we have received that he touched the hearts of so many.’’ Friend Lewis Matthews added: "Sam was a ‘real life Duracell bunny' with a seemingly endless supply of energy and love. "He delighted audiences with his charm, wit and his wonderful musical abilities." Gannon played horse drawn carriage coachman Kev in Emmerdale in 2019, appearing in two episodes of the popular soap. His family have set up a JustGiving page to bring his body back to the UK. The page has a target of £17,000 and any extra funds will be donated to a charity in support of youth theatres around the UK, a "cause close to Sam's heart". So far more than £6,200 has been raised. Along with his sister, the actor, from Brayton in North Yorkshire, leaves behind mum Angie, brothers Jason and Jordan, partner and 'love of his life' Zoe, nieces Matilda and Bethany, and nephews Louis and Evan.
