A video has gone viral of drunk teenagers urinating into 4,000 portions of hotpot broth.
The viral video shows two teenage boys urinating into a broth pot in a private room at a branch of Haidilao, China’s biggest hotpot chain.
The incident is thought to have taken place last month, however the restaurant only confirmed it on Wednesday following the video gaining online attention.
The broth was not served to any customers, however, it is unclear if the hotpot was thoroughly disinfected before it was used again.
Both teenagers have now been arrested.
On social media, the restaurant chain commented: "In the early hours of February 24, two men urinated into a hotpot after dining in a private room at a Haidilao branch on the Bund in Shanghai.
"As management had never made contingency plans or given training for dealing with this type of incident, staff at our branch were unable to detect any abnormalities at the scene or uphold the safety of the dining environment."
Additionally, they have apologised and saying that they have replaced all hotpots and dining utensils.
Following outcry from the public, the Shanghai chain of the restaurant has offered to compensate 4,000 diners who dined at the branch between February 24 and March 8.
All customers will all be given a full refund as well as a cash compensation of 10 times the amount of their bill.
