Authorities say there are at least 30 survivors after the Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashed in Kazakhstan, near the city of Aktau.
The cause of the crash is currently unknown, but the BBC reports that the plane caught fire as it went down.
Flight J2-8243 had come from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, and was en route to the Russian city of Grozny.
Azerbaijan Airlines say the Embraer 190 aircraft was carrying 62 passengers and five crew members, but other reports say the total people onboard totalled to 72.
The reported number of survivors stands at 28 to 32 at the time of writing.
A video of the plane landing shows it heading towards the ground at speed, and a fireball erupting seconds after it hits the ground.
Most of the passengers were Azerbaijani nationals, but nationals from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan were also on board.
It is not yet clear what caused the plane to crash.
