Last night, an attack was carried out not far from the White House.
President Donald Trump has labelled it a 'monstrous, ambush-style attack' which saw two National Guard troops shot in the head.
There are conflicting about the condition of the two troops.
West Virginia's governor said both that both had died from their injuries, however later posted to say there were "conflicting reports about the condition of our two Guard members".
In the latest update, it has been reported that the attack was carried out by an Afghan national who entered the US under the Biden administration.
Now, Donald Trump has called for every Afghan national who entered during this time to be investigated.
In an address from Florida, Trump said: "This attack underscores the single greatest national security threat facing our nation.
"I am determined to ensure the animal who perpetrated this atrocity will pay the steepest possible price."
The US' citizenship and immigration office says they have stopped processing all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals indefinitely.
The suspect, named locally as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, was also shot and was taken to hospital.
The shooting is believed to have been carried out with a handgun at the corner of 17th and H Streets in the north-west area of the city.
It is being investigated by the FBI as a potential act of terror. Mr Trump has announced an extra 500 troops will be deployed in the wake of Wednesday's shooting.
