Criminal charges dropped against Alec Baldwin over shooting of Halyna Hutchins

Baldwin is set to continue filming on the set of Rust

Prosecutors in Santa Fe had been pressing forward with two charges of involuntary manslaughter against the Hollywood star, but they have now been dropped.

A statement from Baldwin's lawyers, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, said: "We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident."

Baldwin recently requested for a lawsuit to be filed against the parents and sister of Hutchins to be dismissed earlier this month after claiming that Olga Solovey, Anatolii Androsovych, and Svetlana Zemko filed the suit to "obtain compensation" following Hutchins' death ion 2021.

Filming of Rust is due to recommence this week, a spokesperson for the film has told CNN. 

Production on the film was halted after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot on set by a prop gun Alec Baldwin was holding. 

Director Joel Souza was also shot and injured.

But the movie will still be completed, with Baldwin and Souza to return to finish the project, according to Rust Movie Productions.

Filming is due to get underway again this week, although it won’t be at the original location of Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico because, you know, that would be disrespectful. 

The film depicts aging outlaw Harland Rust, who comes out of hiding to rescue his thirteen-year-old grandson Lucas after he is sentenced to hang for an accidental murder.
