A couple who discovered a message in a bottle instantly regretted opening it up.
The Australian couple took to TikTok to share the shock discovery they found after reading the letter.
They discovered the bottle near the shore while walking on the beach.
"We've seen a bottle here, washed up. Looks like it's got a message in it," said Rick as he grabbed it from the water.
Crystal attempted to retrieve the message inside, however, couldn't reach so they poured the contents onto the ground.
As Crystal began to read the letter, the couple were left stunned when they realised the contents were human ashes.
"Here lies the ashes of Geoffrey. If found please throw [the] bottle into outgoing tide so I can continue my journey," read the letter.
The text over the TikTok video wrote 'oops, sorry Geoff', referring to the remains inside.
The video's caption explained that the bottle wasn't a setup and pouring the ashes out onto the sand was a 'total accident.'
TikTok users were just as shocked by the couple's findings, joking about the surprising turn of events.
"Just put some sand back in there. And chuck it back in. No one will ever know," wrote one user.
Rick replied: "That's exactly what I did. Tried to get all of him back in there. Felt bad bro."
Another added: "Looks like his journey has ended twice."
'You'd think they'd super glue the lid on,' another wrote.
