The legendary Christopher Lee spent his last night alive watching The Lord of the Rings, it has been revealed.
In a new documentary about the famous actor entitled 'Sky, The Life and Deaths of Christopher Lee', his family discussed the final hours before his passing at the age of 93.
His son-in-law, Juan Aneiros, said Lee wanted to 'watch [the movie] with the nurses', saying he would 'explain how it was made'.
He said the idea was to spend some time in happy memories, passing that happiness on to those who were caring for him.
“He loved that movie,” reflected Aneiros.
Lee's long life and sparkling film career spanned decades in which he played some of the most iconic cinematic roles.
Obviously known from of the role of Saruman in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies, he also played Count Dooku in 'Star Wars'.
Additionally, he took on the role of one of the most monstrous villains in 'Dracula'.
In regard to 'The Lord of the Rings', Lee was the only member of the cast or crew to meet the author of the books, J.R.R. Tolkien, in the 1950s.
Already in love with the books, Lee was eager to play the part of Gandalf when it came to shooting Jackson’s movies, but he was judged too old and was cast as Saruman.
After watching the film that night in 2015, Lee passed away from heart failure.
“I actually thought he was eternal. I thought he would go past 100, I really did think so, so it was a shock…but he just passed away... It was peaceful, he didn’t suffer, he just went to sleep," commented Aneiros comments further on Lee’s passing.
