Nev Schulman, star of hit reality show Catfish, has said he is "lucky" to be alive after he was involved in a horror collision with a truck.
Teh 39-year-old TV host shared a post on Instagram revealing his injuries after he was hit by a truck whilst riding his bike last Monday (August 5).
Schulman said he had been on his way to collect his son from school when the crash happened.
He wrote in the caption of the post: “I never made it to pick up my son from school on the bike.
“In fact in some ways, I’m glad I didn’t. I was alone on impact. Me and the truck. And then I guess the pavement. I was alone and unconscious. And then conscious. Maybe I was fine (I wasn’t). Maybe I can still do my long run on Thursday (I couldn’t).”
He went on to say he was grateful he wasn't paralysed as a result of the crash, and only ended up suffering stable fractures to his neck.
“I broke my neck. C5 and C6 to be exact. Stable fractures. I’m not paralysed,” he continued. “My hands were a question mark there for a minute but the human body is incredible and so are HUMANS.”
Schulman thanked staff who treated him at Southampton Emergency Room and the Stony Brook ICU in New York.
“It’s hard to feel sorry for myself when I hear from the doctors about how many people with similar injuries will never walk again,” he said.
He added that the collision had put into perspective how "life can change in an instant," before saying: “I’m lucky to be here, alive, standing and hugging my family, projected to make a full recovery. And I’m really starting to understand the meaning of gratitude.
“For the big and little things before the accident, and now everything moving forward.”
Schulman shot to fame as the host and writer of the documentary film Catfish and its subsequent TV show.
