A group of British holidaymakers who were on route to Turkey for a golf getaway drank the entire stock of booze on the plane within 25 minutes.
Staff from Turkish-German airline SunExpress revealed that a four hour flight from the UK to Turkey was 'drunk dry' by the British holidaymakers.
Speaking to aviation publication TTG, the carriers chief executive Max Kownatzki described British passengers as "more high-spend, more hedonistic".
Speaking about the aforementioned flight, Kownatzki said: "We sold out of beer and wine 25 minutes after departure; we haven’t done that in any other market."
He didn’t say how many passengers were on the flight, nor did he specify exactly how much alcohol they consumed. Regardless, that's a high-speed consumption of booze at 30,000 feet in the air.
Kownatzki was speaking to the publication about his ambition to grow SunExpress in the UK market as a tourist and commuter airline in a similar vein to that of Jet2.
Since 2022, SunExpress have operated flights from Birmingham, Edinburgh, Gatwick, Luton and Manchester. Bristol and Newcastle were added in 2023 and Leeds Bradford and Stansted are set to be launched this summer.
They offer routes to popular Turkish holiday destinations such as Antalya, Dalaman and Izmir.
SunExpress has been in business for 35 years, after launching in 1989 as part of a partnership between Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines. It was named the Best Leisure Airline in Europe in August 2023.
