Britain set to experience possibility of ‘heavy snow’ as Met Office issues a number of severe weather warnings

The UK is looking at treacherous conditions this week as snow falls across the country

The Met Office has issues fresh yellow weather warnings for the coming week, as the country looks likely to continue to be bombarded by snow and chilly weather. Northern Scotland will see the worst of it with blizzards expected in the highest areas overnight on Sunday. As it gets towards midweek, even the south-east of England has been told to expect 1-3cm of snow with 5-10cm possible on higher ground. A spokesman for Met Office said: "Snow, possibly heavy at times, developing overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday." Power cuts could occur in some areas and mobile phone coverage, may also be affected, the Met Office added. Writing on social media the forecaster said: "A yellow severe weather warning for snow has been issued for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning for southeast England. 1-3 cm of UK snow are expected widely. Stay weather aware." The updates come after a week in which Brits were warned to brace for "thundersnow" and temperatures dropping well below freezing.
