We've been waiting eagerly for its return.

After much anticipation, the first two episodes of Bad Sisters season two are now available to stream on Apple TV+.

Co-created by and starring Sharon Horgan, the first season of the Irish comedy thriller premiered in August 2022 and told the story of the Garvey family, five tight-knit sisters living in Dublin.

This was as four of them decided to team up to kill the other sibling's awful and evil husband.

Thanks to its brilliant black comedy, its suspenseful story, its great performances, its portrait of sisterly love and its villain for the ages in JP aka The P***k (Claes Bang), Bad Sisters was acclaimed by critics and audiences alike.

While originally conceived as a limited series, the show was such a runaway hit that a second season was quickly ordered.

The plot synopsis for Bad Sisters season two reads:

“Bad Sisters season two returns to follow the lives of the Garvey sisters played by Sharon Horgan as Eva, Anne-Marie Duff as Grace, Eva Birthistle as Ursula, Sarah Greene as Bibi and Eve Hewson as Becka.
"Two years after the 'accidental death' of Grace’s abusive husband, the close-knit Garvey sisters may have moved on, but when past truths resurface, the ladies are thrust back into the spotlight, suspicions are at an all-time high, lies are told, secrets revealed and the sisters are forced to work out who they can trust."

The new batch of episodes sees Irish acting legend Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve) join the cast.

And based on the early reviews, Bad Sisters' sophomore outing is worth sticking with.

Collider: "The Apple TV+ dark comedy series finds a way to balance plot twists, character development, comedy, and high stakes, which makes the overall experience a significant improvement over Season 1."

Observer: "The second season doesn't dig as deep as the first, but it still works as an unorthodox crime thriller with a healthy amount of family dramedy."

JOE recently spoke to one of the show's stars Eva Birthistle about her directorial debut Kathleen is Here.

And during the chat, we asked Birthistle about working with such great Irish actresses on both the movie and Bad Sisters.

In response, she said:

“I feel very lucky. I feel lucky to be part of the Bad Sisters cast and it’s such a brilliant job. I have the best time on it and I’m working with incredibly talented people as you say.
“And then to get to do [Kathleen is Here] as well with Hazel [Doupe] and Clare [Dunne], the two Claires – my producer Clare [McCaughley] – everybody was very talented on both jobs.
“But when you’re working with particularly female-led stories or very strong talented women, it’s only ever been a really wonderful experience – a very supportive experience.
“It’s something I feel like I’ve spent a long time to get to this point in my career and it feels like we’re in quite a different place now and I feel like there’s just going to be more of that to come which makes me feel very happy.”

The rest of its eight episodes will drop on the streaming service weekly on Wednesdays.
