Anthony Gordon made a classy gesture to fans to thank them for their support after he missed a penalty for Newcastle in their game against Everton.
As fans gathered on Saturday ahead of the Magpies game against Brighton in The Strawberry pub, they were treated to a free drink, courtesy of Anthony Gordon who had put money behind the bar to thank them for their support.
Gordon, who joined Newcastle in January last year, stepped up to take a penalty against his old club Everton at Goodison Park before the international break, but his tame effort was comfortably saved by Jordan Pickford.
The Toffees fans brutally mocked the man they used to cheer but the Newcastle number 10 received a very different reception from the Toon Army as they settled for a 0-0 draw.
After the game he said: “A great performance, just couldn’t put them away, and that’s on me. Never easy missing but you’ll never see me shy away from stepping up for my team. Thanks to everyone that travelled – till next time.”
This Saturday, 19 October, a Newcastle fan account revealed how Gordon thanked the Geordies for their support with free pints.
X account Mouth of the Tyne said: “Fantastic gesture by Anthony Gordon to put money behind the bar in The Strawberry so that fans can get free drinks pre-match.”
Another account said: “What a touch by @anthonygordon putting money for fans behind the bar in the @theberrypub today…”
Fans held up pieces of paper that read ‘Anthony Gordon bought me a pint’ and had their photos taken in the pub that’s located next to St James’ Park.
Yesterday, it was announced that Gordon had signed a new long-term deal at the club despite rumours linking him to Liverpool.
Manager, Eddie Howe said: “I’m delighted Anthony has committed his future to the club. He has grown as a player and as a person during his time at Newcastle United and he has continued to prove just how good he is on the biggest stage.”
Since joining the Magpies just under two years ago, he has scored 15 goals and 11 assists in 73 appearances.
