A press release from the right-wing TV channel states that he will continue as a regular guest and commentator on the channel's various programmes.
The release also quotes Neil as saying: "I am sorry to go but I've decided it's time to reduce my commitments on a number of fronts.
"Over the summer I've had time to reflect on my extensive portfolio of interests and decided it was time to cut back.
He added: "I wish GB News well in continuing to fulfil its founding promise and mission to reach audiences currently underserved by existing broadcasters."
GB News called him "without doubt one of the finest journalists and interviewers in this country" and thanked him for his leadership.
This comes just after reports of three senior producers resigning, with other senior employees also reportedly unhappy with the way the channel is run.
