Aldi have sent a tractor to deliver booze and sausages to punters and staff at a pub in Yorkshire after they became stranded following heavy snowfall.
The Tan Hill Inn situated in Richmond, North Yorkshire is Britain’s highest pub at 1732 feet above sea level.
Twenty-three guests and six staff members became stranded at the notorious pub on January 3.
The guests said they had become lifelong friends as they made the best of a bad situation but yesterday the pub revealed on social media that they had started to run out of wine and sausages.
Following their plight closely was Aldi who came up with a genius plan to get the much needed supplies to those still stranded at the Inn.
Taking to social media the pub revealed that the supermarket chain had sent a tractor to deliver the goods.
They said: “We were preparing ourselves for an evening without Malbec and breakfast without sausages when we had a surprise visit from a snowplough in shining armour!
“Supermarket chain Aldi UK had heard of our red wine and banger shortage and hired a local contractor with a tractor to bring us supplies.
“The mercy mission was driven by Harry, a farmer from Leyburn in Wensleydale, who said it was “touch and go” but smashed his way through the last miles to us.”
Aldi responded on social media saying: “Snow worries!! We were happy to help! We couldn’t face the thought of you all being snowed in and sausage-less!!! Wishing you ALDI luck for a speedy thaw out and safe travels home.”
The pub also revealed that while some of their guests had managed to escape courtesy of snowploughs escorting most guests from the Tan Hill Inn to safety on Tuesday January 7, ten people including two German guests remained stranded.
They said: “Eva and Matthias from Bavaria tried to drive out along the ploughed road tonight but failed and are back with us, safe and sound.”
Meanwhile, they shared that their staff had missed out on a number of milestones whilst stranded, away from their families.
A bar maid missed her daughter’s 18th while another staff member became a grandma.
