Aldi has issued a "do not eat" alert to its tortilla wraps, with a police investigation currently underway.
The supermarket chain has recalled a batch of Village Bakery 8 Tortilla Wraps White owing to fears they may have been tampered with and could possibly contain metal.
The product was pulled from shelves last month, and anyone who has wraps with a best before date of April 29, 2024, is being urged to return them to the branch where they purchased them from.
They will be given a full refund.
The issue affects all Best Before dates up until April 29, 2024, of the Signature Flatbreads UK item, available in a packet size of 8x62g.
No other Aldi products have been affected.
Warning posters have been put up in Aldi stores, telling shoppers not to eat the product, the Daily Star reports.
In a statement, Aldi said said: "As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling Village Bakery 8 Tortilla Wraps White because this product may have been contaminated with pieces of metal.
“We would like to reassure our customers that no other Aldi products are affected and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
A Bedfordshire Police spokesperson said: “We received a report of suspected contaminated food products that originated from a warehouse in Dunstable.
“Enquiries are currently ongoing, and police are working closely with both the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and the warehouse affected.
“Anyone with information can report online quoting reference 40/14332/24.”
Customers requiring further information or having queries are being asked to contact Aldi on 0800 042 0800 or visit help.aldi.co.uk.
