Christmas appears to be looking different for Brits this year, as they won’t be having just turkey on their dinner table.
Many, it appears, are planning to add baked beans, chips, pizza and garlic bread to their plates.
As for a roast, it seems that only 69% are planning it, as over a quarter of Brits appear to be considering a takeaway for the day.
And pizza seems to be the top choice, among 54% of people.
This all thanks to the launching of Yuletide Yorkie by Papa Johns, a pizza that is Yorkshire pudding inspired. This way, Brits can enjoy a festive food without actually stressing about cooking.
A Papa Johns research shows that many people are planning to spice up their roast, however turkey still is the favorite among those that love meat, leading at 65%.
On the other hand, chicken (34%) and beef (32%) are alternative options, while Yorkshire puddings continue to be a favourite side dish, as 77% of Brits believe that they belong with any type of meat.
Pigs in blankets too, are seen as a side that doesn’t belong only on Christmas Day.
The unexpected additions for the Christmas table include chips (27%), mayo (26%), grated or sliced cheese (26%), pizza (24%), tinned / frozen sweetcorn (24%), chilli sauce (24%), garlic bread (22%), baked beans (21%).
During the festive season, Brits admit that Christmas dinner is one of the most stressful parts, as 41% of them say that balancing the cooking timings and washing up is a headache for the holidays.
It appears that shortcuts will be used by three in five Brits, or 64%, and the kitchen will be skipped altogether by 26% of them.
But why are many in the nation breaking tradition?
They want to spend less time in the kitchen, so that’s why.
About 42% of them want to spend less time there, 38% of them want to be actually spending more time with friends and family, while 37% just want to spice things up in their plates.
Pizza (54%), burgers, fried chicken or kebabs (51%) are the top choices when it comes to takeaways, while fish and chips is also a popular choice at 48%.
“This year some Brits aren’t just reinventing the roast, they’re replacing it completely with some binning the hours of prep and opting for easier alternatives like a Christmas day takeaway. The nation spoke, and we listened, creating the Yuletide Yorkie-inspired pizza to satisfy Britain’s desire to combine their favourites this Christmas”, Rebecca Carroll, Marketing Director at Papa Johns said.
