Some Stranger Things fans have taken issue with some of Metallica's past actions, with some dubbing them "racist" and their opposition claiming "cancel culture" is at work. Stranger Things fans fell in love with Joseph Quinn's Eddie Munson in the latest instalment of the popular Netflix series. After Eddie performed a brilliant rendition of Metallica's "Master of Puppets", many fans discovered the rock band for the first time and subsequently stumbled on problematic moments. The series of actions have since caused quite the stir on both TikTok and Twitter, with many coming to the band's defence.

TikTok user Serena Trueblood seemingly spurred the conversation, detailing how former bassist Jason Newsted appeared to do a Nazi salute onstage. The band also mocked the then-recent death of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. Many fans accused singer James Hetfield of racism after Trueblood shared a clip of Guns N' Roses backup singer Roberta Freeman who alleged that Hetfield referred to rapper Ice-T using a racially charged slur.
