A woman has been left in tears after discovering what the tattoo she got on holiday really means.
Social media creator, Amy Dickinson, who is originally from Australia, travelled to Fiji on holiday and decided to get a tattoo but didn’t understand the language.
Dickinson posted a video crying to her 95,000 followers on TikTok, pleading for their help and advice.
She said: “I didn't know that Fijians could be so mean, because now I've got a tattoo and I don't even know what it means.
“So can someone tell me what I have on my body, please?”
She flipped her camera to reveal a tattoo that read ‘Matanivola Levu’, inked on her upper thigh, tucked away so most people wouldn’t see it.
She said: “Okay, this is my tattoo. What does that even mean?”
Dickinson said she made the mistake because she was a ‘fun, spontaneous person’.
In a follow-up video, she posted that it was ‘so brat coded’ to consent to getting a tattoo in a foreign language.
Her followers were quick to respond, helping her out with the translation.
One user revealed: “That’s ‘capital letter’ in Fijian.”
While another confirmed: “That’s actually hilarious – it says, ‘capital letters’ but it’s all lower case… Brilliant.”
Others disagreed, saying there was an alternative meaning to the phrase, saying: "'Big Book' in Fijian can translate to mean you have many stories to tell, which is a way of saying you have many adventures.”
Another said: "Matanivola levu means that you are like a big book which is like you have so many stories to share n tell it’s nothing bad dw".
One follower said: "Omg no way I have the same tattoo!!!" Others applauded her bravery and adventurous nature.
