Experts reveal the Top 10 flirting techniques

Flirting is something that a lot of British people find difficult enough to master.

We're actually pretty charming people if we be ourselves and let our sense of humour shine, but if we try and be all smooth and suave like the French and Italians, we fall apart. That's why this latest research might interest all the single gents out there. Psychosexual therapist Cate Mackenzie analysed a study of more than 2,000 people to find the most popular flirting techniques and compiled the top 10 most common tricks. Somehow, shouting a terrible joke at someone in a nightclub didn't make the list:

1. Maintaining eye contact
2. Paying someone a compliment
3. Teasing someone
4. Looking at someone and then looking away
5. Asking someone for help
6. Complimenting someone only on their appearance
7. Buying them a drink
8. Chatting to someone about the place you are in
9. Text them after meeting them
10. Be tactile with them
