Cannabis arrests fall as police take more relaxed approach

Are police giving the green light to the decriminalisation of weed in this country, or is it all just a smokescreen?

Budding drug enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that arrests for possession of cannabis fell by almost a third since 2011 after police budgets took a big hit. According to the most recent figures from the Crime Survey for England and Wales, whilst the amount of cannabis-related arrests fell, the amount of people smoking weed in the UK actually increased over the same amount of time. In 2010, 6.5% of adults in the UK were using the drug, compared to 6.7% today. In the UK, parliament debated the issue after a petition forced it onto the agenda in Westminster. It certainly seems like it will be difficult for anti-marijuana campaigners to stem the tide of support that has grown for its legalisation.
