The World Health Organisation has recognized ‘scromiting’, which is a heavy side effect of smoking weed. And the brutal reality of this very unpleasant side effect has been described by weed smokers.
Weed is one of the most accessible drugs, seeing as how it is legal in a number of states in the US and it is also used in the world of medicine.
In the past it has been linked to cognitive decline, but this only happens when you overconsume it.
But now, weed users are opening up about what it feels like to go through CHS or cannabis hyperemesis syndrome, also known as ‘scromiting’.
The term actually comes when you mix the words screaming and vomiting, which is what happens if you suffer from the condition following chronic weed use.
WHO has now recognised it as an official diagnosis, as it is becoming increasingly common among cannabis users.
“A new code for cannabis hyperemesis syndrome will supply important hard evidence on cannabis-adverse events, which physicians tell us is a growing problem”, according to Beatriz Carlini, a research associate professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
“It helps us count and monitor these cases. In studying addiction and other public health concerns, we have three sources of data: what clinicians tell us, what people in the communities tell us, and what health records tell us”, he added.
What makes ‘scromiting’ a harrowing experience is that there are very few treatments or medications available for you, if you’re suffering from it.
Even antiemetics or antihistamine medication you can buy over the counter, which are very effective in preventing nausea or vomiting, are barely effective for ‘scromiting’.
Some people on social media have shared their highly unpleasant experiences of the condition, which can often be mistaken for the flu or food poisoning.
“This s**t’s wild, it’s some of the worst physical pain I’ve ever experienced in my life, and I birthed him, a 9-pound baby”, said one mum on TikTok as she described the pain as worse than childbirth, pointing at her son in the video.
Another user, who said she was smoking three to four times a day for more than four years, said: “I almost died from it, I couldn’t eat or drink for a week. I was throwing up 24/7.”
“Smoking nearly killed me. The only thing to stop the reoccurring sickness is you have to stop smoking”, said another user.
But there is one way you can relieve symptoms, and that is by bathing in hot water, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
If you want to get rid of ‘scromiting’ completely, then you should quit smoking weed for good.
