Big games based on huge intellectual properties are not having a good 2023. A few months back, it looked like The Lord of the Rings: Gollum might be taking the trophy home for worst game of the year (current Metacritic score: 34%), another famous adaptation might knock it from the top bottom spot.
Skull Island: Rise of Kong launches today (18 October) for players, and the early footage from the game has been... well, see for yourself:
The fact that the game is out and there are no official reviews yet is always a worrying sign, but probably to be expected when the games looks like that. The game's official synopsis is as follows:
If, for some sadomasochistic reason, you want to pay money to play this for yourself, Skull Island: Rise of Kong is selling for £35 (!?) on PlayStation 5 right now, and is also available on PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
"Embark on a 3rd person action-adventure quest to avenge the death of your parents at the hands of the ultimate alpha predator: Gaw. Conquer waves of primal beasts and defeat the minions of your arch-nemesis on your way to becoming the rightful King of Skull Island. Traverse the mysterious island and uncover lore and all the secrets the island has to offer as you encounter swamps, waterfalls, jungle, and skullite-filled caves that give the island’s flora and fauna its power."
