'Battle royale' is almost a bit of a dirty word these days: everyone seems to have done their version of what the likes of
PUBG,
Fortnite and even
Call of Duty: Warzone have spent the last few years dominating online gaming with.
Safe to say, it's fairly rare that you get a fresh take on the addictive elimination format. That being said, a team of Welsh game developers, publishers and movie producers are putting their own interesting spin on not one - but two - tried and tested formats.

Bloodshore is an interactive action movie following a "televised battle royale between high-profile streamers, entertainers and death row inmates". The comparisons to the likes of
Squid Game,
Black Mirror,
The Hunger Games and even that film
Nerve (if you can remember it) are all there - but this time you'll be able to direct the story the way you want it to go.
Whether you were exposed to them through picture books and interactive novels when you were a kid or you played the output of companies like
Telltale Games, you've probably tried a 'choose your own adventure' style experience at some point in your life.
Perhaps one of the best examples outside of the gaming genre is
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, which for many people was their first taste of an interactive experience which fused gaming with high-end television and movie drama. However, that one wasn't set on a 'battle royale' island where everyone is at risk, was it?
In
Bloodshore, you control the fate of Nick, a washed-up actor who's fighting for a life-changing cash prize (again, very
Squid Game) and make key decisions with life or death consequences for all characters, spanning more than eight hours of FMV (full motion video) footage.
So, if you're a gamer who enjoys the Telltale series,
The Dark Pictures Anthology or simply a TV and movie lover in need of a new and unique obsession now the rollercoaster of
Squid Game is over - this could be the one for you.
