While there are already 70 Netflix games available on the Netflix mobile app, the streaming service is taking its gaming service one step further, by announcing that as of right now, specific customers will be the first in the public to have access to their cloud-streamed games.
Initially, the Netflix games were only available via the Android or iOS app, but this new update will make streaming games available to anyone with the Netflix app on their TV and computer too... with some stipulations in place right now, as this is still very much in the early days of product testing.
As per the official Netflix statement: "[This week], we're taking the first step in making games playable on every device where our members enjoy Netflix - TVs, computers, and mobile. We are rolling out a limited beta test to a small number of members in Canada and the UK on select TVs starting today, and on PCs and Macs through Netflix.com on supported browsers in the next few weeks.
"Two games will be part of this initial test: Oxenfree from Night School Studio, a Netflix Game Studio, and Molehew’s Mining Adventure, a gem-mining arcade game. To play our games on TV, we're introducing a controller that we already have in our hands most of the day - our phones. Members on PCs and Macs can play on Netflix.com with a keyboard and mouse."
It is expected that more games will become available in more countries once this initial round of testing is completed. Meanwhile, the TV systems that are, at the time of writing, compatible with the Netflix games are as follows:
