McDonald’s is adding Krispy Kreme to the menu

McDonald’s is adding Krispy Kreme doughnuts to its menus in a number of its restaurants in news which is likely to delight fans of the fast food chain. Nine locations in Louisville, Kentucky, will be selling the doughnuts as part of a test, with a wider rollout expected if the trial is a success. While McDonald’s already has its own line of pastries under its McCafé range, the fast food giant said it was keen to see how new products might ‘impact’ its offering. Customers will have the choice of glazed, chocolate iced with sprinkles and raspberry-filled doughnuts to begin with, all available individually or in packs of six. “McDonald’s is always looking for ways to give our fans more of what they crave, and we often conduct tests to inform future menu decisions,” it said in a statement. “This small-scale test will help us understand how offering new bakery items like Krispy Kreme could impact operations in our restaurants.” Krispy Kreme uses a hub-and-spoke model, which means its doughnuts are made at its system of stores and bakeries before being sold on to third-party vendors – covering everything from grocery stores, gas stations to food trucks and, now, McDonald’s stores. The upside for the doughnut brand is potentially quite big, given that it has fewer locations than McD's and wants to expand in the United States. The collaboration could also help McDonald's attract new customers during the morning, where business has remained steady. Earlier this month the fast-food chain revealed it had added a permanent burger to its menu for the first time in 15 years. The McCrispy is set to hit restaurants next week and has been branded "game-changer" by the chain who claim it is the "crispiest, crunchiest chicken burger out there". Related links:
