Foodies looking for the next big thing need to get their taste buds around Khachapuri. The traditional Georgian dish has been gaining popularity around the world, and for good reason - it's absolutely banging!
Khachapuri is a cheese-filled bread that's typically shaped like a boat. The dough is made with flour, yeast, salt, water, and sometimes milk, and then it's filled with a mixture of cheese and eggs. The cheese used in khachapuri is typically a combination of feta and mozzarella, but different regions of Georgia have their own variations. Some even add spinach or smoked sausage to the filling.
The dough is rolled out into a circle, and then the filling is added in the center. The edges of the dough are then pinched together to create a boat shape, and the whole thing is baked until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and gooey.
There are a few different types of khachapuri, each with its own unique shape and flavor. The most common type is Adjarian khachapuri, which is shaped like a boat and filled with cheese and a whole egg, which is cracked on top of the cheese just before baking. When the bread comes out of the oven, the egg yolk is still runny, and you can mix it in with the cheese for an even richer flavor.
Other types of khachapuri include Imeretian khachapuri, which is round and filled with cheese but no egg, and Megruli khachapuri, which is circular and has cheese mixed into the dough as well as the filling.
Khachapuri has been a staple in Georgia for centuries, but it's only recently started to gain international recognition. And it's not hard to see why - the combination of warm, freshly-baked bread and gooey, melted cheese is hard to resist. It's the ultimate comfort food, perfect for cold winter evenings or lazy weekend brunches.
But it's not just the taste that's making khachapuri so popular. The bread is also incredibly versatile - you can have it as a snack, a starter, or even as a main course. It's also easy to make at home, so you don't need to be a master chef to enjoy this delicious dish.
If you're lucky enough to live near a Georgian restaurant, you should definitely give Khachapuri a try. But if you're not, don't worry - there are plenty of recipes online that you can try out at home. Trust us, once you've tasted khachapuri, you won’t look back!
