The plot details and amount of episodes for the new season of Luther have been revealed

He's back. Hell yes!!

From the moment that Idris Elba destroyed that door in the very first episode of Luther, we knew that this was a show that's going to be unlike anything else. Since that memorable first meeting with DCI John Luther and the wonderfully psychotic Alice Morgan, fans of the show have been addicted to Neil Cross' unique mix of mystery, murder and the macabre. This being said, Season 4 didn't quite match the incredible standards that came before it but with production now underway on Season5, the next season promises to be a doozy. While promoting his new show, Hard Sun, Cross has previously said that the new season of Luther is going to be the 'biggest' one yet. We already know that Rose Leslie's character, Emma Jones, won't be returning but the plot details have just been revealed. When the moonless shadows of London give birth to a new nightmare, DCI John Luther must once again confront the depths of human depravity. As a series of monstrous killings becomes ever more audacious, Luther and new recruit D.S. Catherine Halliday are confounded by a tangle of leads and misdirection that seems designed to protect an unspeakable horror. But even as the case brings him closer than ever to the nature of true evil, a reluctant Luther must also face the ghosts of his own past. Striding back into the line of fire, he must choose who to protect… and who to sacrifice. Whatever his next move, it will have devastating consequences for those around him - and will change John Luther forever. As for the cast, Dermot Crowley, Michael Smiley and Patrick Malahide will be returning for the 4-part series as DSU Martin Schenk, Benny Silver and George Cornelius respectively. Wunmi Mosaku (Damilola, Our Loved Boy) will be new recruit D.S. Catherine Halliday in the fifth level of the saga.   Speaking about the new episodes, Cross said : "We missed John Luther. We missed some old friends. And we wanted to make the biggest, scariest, darkest, most thrilling series of Luther there’s ever been.
