Snoop Dogg is starting a venture into the world of video games with his son.
The legendary rapper is best-known for his impact on the music scene, after announcing his arrival in the 90s with the release of debut album Doggystyle.
Along with his music, Snoop is also a big fan of gaming and often streams himself playing video games live on Twitch.
Earlier this year, Call of Duty even announced the rapper would be a playable operator in Call of Duty alongside the likes of Nicki Minaj and 21 Savage.
And now, it looks like Snoop wants to do more than just appear in games.
AfroTech reports that he is launching a video game studio alongside his son, Cordell Broadus, which they have called Death Row Games.
The killer name is a nod to the record label that Snoop released his first two albums under, with the likes of Dr. Dre and 2Pac also signed to the label at the time.
The studio aims to create content meade by the Unreal Editor used in Fortnite, with a focus on minority content creators. In the future, Snoop and Cordell hope to expand into video game publishing and development.
Cordell told AfroTech: “We’ve been creating games, and none of them has been published anything on a huge scale, but on a very amateur level.
“We’ve been around games for the last five to six years. And Snoop, he’s done mobile games. A few of them in the past five to six years in apps and stuff like that. So we’ve always had the mindset of building it on our own.”
Broadus continued: “We felt like let’s really put resources into building Death Row Games and making a home for diverse creators in the gaming ecosystem and be a part of the narrative, the storytelling of what the next game should be looking like.
"And I keep saying ‘show representation of the culture in these sectors,’ versus us just being the talent. We wanted to make sure that we’re part of the decision that’s being made and more importantly tell these stories from diverse creators and focus on creatives in underserved communities.”
