Simon Pegg brands Star Wars audience the most ‘toxic’ fan base he’s come across

They're certainly a passionate bunch - but are they the worst?

Simon Pegg has recently branded Star Wars fans "toxic" and some of the "hardest to please" that he's come across. Pegg, an avid lover of both George Lucas's brainchild and rival sci-fi franchise Star Trek - not to mention appearing in both - recently appeared on Sirius XM’s Jim and Sam Show when he was asked who he thinks are the "hardest fans to please". The 52-year-old Shaun of the Dead co-writer and actor didn't take long to come up with his answer, admitting that "as someone who kicked off about the prequels when they came out, the Star Wars fan base really seems to be the most toxic at the moment". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gS5Q7g17eYs As he goes on to explain in the clip, while many may see it as a "controversial" thing to say and he himself has since apologised for his own comments regarding the prequels - his widely shared hatred for the character of Jar Jar Binks, for example - he does believe that a galaxy far, far away contains the most heated opinions. In contrast, he also said that "Star Trek fans have always been to be very, very inclusive", remarking that the show has always been about diversity since its inception and, as such, perhaps has managed to avoid the so-called "woke" tag. On the other hand, he noted that in Star Wars' most recent films and TV spin-offs, while there has been more diversity, some of the franchise's fans are now "kicking off about it" and that "it's really sad" to see. For instance, certain sections of the fan base were recently condemned by Obi-Wan Kenobi himself, Ewan McGregor, after some viewers took to sending actor Moses Ingram, who played Reeva in his standalone series, racist and sexist abuse.
